#605 Museum shows: The Autry Masters, con't . . .

The Autry Museum's 2015 Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale is in its eighteenth year and last night's gala saw brisk sales. 

Collectors from across America  attended the prestigious weekend
event in Los Angeles.  Please see the previous
blog for more information about the Masters.

Richard Greeves.  John is the beloved Special Advisor to the Masters and this year,
Richard sculpted his portrait which was presented on Friday night at the artists and patrons dinner.

The marine paintings shown are by Christopher Blossom.

Below, after lunch on Saturday,  curator Amy Scott (far right)  moderated  a discussion with art collectors

Below, the Howard Terpning painting, "The Patrol - 1877" sold at the Friday night auction for $1,300,000.

#604 Museum shows: The Autry Masters

The Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles opens this Friday, Jan. 30.  

The prestigious show is one of America's most important exhibitions of representational art.  

Eighty of the nation's most prominent painters and sculptors participate in the annual juried invitational, 

which runs through March 8.

#502 Museum Shows: The Briscoe . . . "Briscoe Bison Fragment I"

Our next major show is the Briscoe Museum's "Night of the Artists".  Located on San Antonio's famed River Walk, the institution is housed in San Antonio's first public library.  The newly restored Art Deco masterpiece consists of the historic museum building,  the newly constructed Jack Guenther Pavillion, the adjacent McNutt Courtyard and Sculpture Garden and is spread across one-and-a-quarter acres in downtown San Antonio.

Invitational and juried museum shows such as the Briscoe and the Autry Museum's Masters of the American West - now in progress -  have played an important role in the resurgent interest in representational art.  Quality, originality and healthy competition among the artists has been the result and astute collectors and museums recognize it.

The Briscoe "Night of the Artists" opens Fri., March 28 with a gala opening event.
Public exhibition open March 30 and continues through April 27.

#499 Museum Shows: The Autry, con't . . . "King of the Coop"

One of America's most important Western art show, the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale, 

celebrates its 17th anniversary at the Autry National Center with opening-day activities on Saturday, February 1, 2014. The juried exhibition and sale features 82 artists, including a newly added guest artist group of emerging talent, whose work is stylistically and thematically diverse.

I enjoyed brisk sales at the Autry Masters . . . it was rewarding to see all of the "intent to purchase" names pulled out of the box and posted!  All work was new 

and introduced at the show.

#385 In the Field: Autry Masters, con't . . .

The Autry Masters weekend is over.  The 2013 Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale was dedicated to Saralynn . . . John Geraghty's beloved wife of 60 years who passed away Jan. 23.  Saralynn shared with John a passion for western art that they channeled into their work on behalf of the Autry National Center in Los Angeles.  Saralynn was a dear friend.  Her beautiful smile and elegant style will be missed by those of us who loved her.
