This coming weekend marks the 10th anniversary of "Quest for the West" art show and sale
 held at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The exhibition features 50 of American's top painters and sculptors and I am delighted to be an invited artist.

#642 Prix de West, 2015 . . . con't

Invited artists may exhibit four works in the Prix de West Exhibition at the National Cowboy Museum and Western 

Heritage Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The gala opening is this weekend . . .  it closes August 2, 2015.

The previous post shows "Jake", which is one of four new sculptures for the exhibition.
The additional three sculptures in the exhibition is the focus of this blog post. . . all are copyright, 2015.

#606 In the foundry: "The Taker"

Below, are photos taken in the foundry depicting the application of the patina to The Taker.   


 The first photo shows the patina technician polishing the bronze.

Next, liver of sulfur is applied which darkens the bronze sculpture.

The bronze is then heated with a propane torch and cupric nitrate is sizzled on.

The sculpture now has a cool blueish-green color and is allowed to cool down.
When cool,  the stainless steel ball is ready to be welded in, the weld heat marks are then touched up with liver of sulfur.

Wax is applied, and I sign and number the back of each casting with an engraver.

#604 Museum shows: The Autry Masters

The Masters of the American West at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles opens this Friday, Jan. 30.  

The prestigious show is one of America's most important exhibitions of representational art.  

Eighty of the nation's most prominent painters and sculptors participate in the annual juried invitational, 

which runs through March 8.
