# 678 "Wild 100" at the National Museum of Wildlife Art

Note: We are now posting once a week on Monday.

Trish and I just returned from the opening of "Wild 100" art show and sale at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming.  I exhibited two new sculptures in the show:  Shown below is "Tom" (Wild Turkey) and "M'Bogo" . . .  which is the Swahili word for African Buffalo.  I also exhibited one etching - "Bull Moose".

We drove over Togwotee Pass in a snowstorm last Thursday and returned with beautiful, clear fall weather.
Mid-September is always glorious in the Tetons and Jackson Hole.
Below, are images and memories of this year's return to the "Wild 100".

Below, my work for the exhibition was spotlighted in the museum's magazine:  "Western Visions"/

Below, are images of my sculpture on the museum's sculpture trail.

Below, a group gathered at the museum to celebrate Jane Smith: Jane and Red were great friends of Carl Rungius and Jane was a patron of the museum.  We all toasted their incredible lives with Jane, Red, and Carl's favorite drink . . . a Manhattan!  Pictured are Sue Simpson Gallagher and Bill Kerr;  Veerla and Kent Ullberg with Joffa Kerr;  and yours truly.

A highlight of the weekend was spending time with Debbie Petersen . . .  the delightful and art impassioned
chairman of the National Museum of Wildlife Board of Trustees.

Below, are images taken as we left the beautiful valley heading back over the Togwotee Pass.
The scenes in my rearview mirror resulted in many photo-op stops as we

#631 Sculpture at Brookgreen . . . con't

www.brookgreen.org

The previous four blogs spotlighted equine sculpture at Brookgreen Gardens located in Murrell's Inlet South Carolina.  Brookgreen is an accredited museum and
home to the largest and most important collection of American figurative sculpture in existence.  Founded by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington in 1931,  Brookgreen is
a National Historical Landmark, has an accredited zoo and aviary, and is
a horticultural masterpiece . . .  it is a "must see" destination for
sculptors and those who love art and nature.

Twenty years ago Brookgreen acquired the first of four of my sculptures for their
permanent collection.  The sculpture, entitled "Peace Fountain" is shown below.

Three additional sculptures were acquired by the museum . . . the last in 2006.
In 2007 I was elected to be on Brookgreen Gardens Board of Trustees and I continue to serve.

Shown below is the sculpture, "Mallard Duet", which won the Ellin P. Speyer Award
at the National Academy of Design in 1988.  The work is scheduled to be moved
to a new waterfowl addition in the museum's aviary next month.

Shown below, is "Mallard Duet" in its present location.
Also shown, is Brookgreen's Curator of Sculpture,
Robin Salmon and Zoo Director, Andrea DeMuth with me last month
as we surveyed the new waterfowl aviary under construction.

"Eat More Beef" was acquired in the late 1990s for the delightful Children's Sculpture Garden located
on the vast, 9000 acre museum grounds.  Shown below, are images of the monument and Trish.

The most recent acquisition is "Presidential Eagle".  The heroic-sized sculpture is also installed at the
Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas and at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming.
Show below are images of "Presidential Eagle" . . . acquired by the museum in 2006.

#26 Remarque: "Presidential Eagle"

This monumental sculpture was conceived as a celebration of nature and a tribute to our great nation.

The eagle motif is one of the world's oldest symbols and one of the few birds that can be presented over life sized. Appropriate design and concept is called for if a sculpture is produced on a grand or heroic scale.  The subject must worthy!

Presidential Eagle was installed at the Clinton Presidential Library in 2004, Brookgreen Gardens in 2005 and will be placed at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming in the spring of 2012.
