#475 In the studio: Etching, the process, con't . . .

Start this series with Post # 470, October 16, 2013.

Below, the inked plate is placed on the bed of the etching press and a dampened
sheet of rag etching paper is placed on top of the plate.
Over all of this are placed wool blankets which protect both the plate and the press from wear.

Below, the inked plate and paper "sandwich" is run between the
steel rollers of the etching press under heavy pressure.

Below, the paper is peeled back from the etching plate, bringing with it the ink which has been
transferred from the plate to the paper.   The resulting print is called an etching.
